How this is worked out

Wall area is length × height. That area is multiplied by 60 bricks per square metre for each skin, then by any waste allowance, and rounded up to whole bricks.

Worked example

  • Wall length 5 m
  • Wall height 1.8 m
  • 1 skin
  • No waste allowance

5 × 1.8 = 9 m², and 9 × 60 = 540

540 bricks

Assumptions and limits

  • 60 bricks per square metre suits standard 215 × 65 mm bricks laid stretcher bond with 10 mm joints. Other brick sizes or bonds change the rate.
  • Openings are not deducted and no extra is added for cuts unless you enter a waste allowance.
