How this is worked out
Statutory Maternity Pay is 90% of average weekly earnings for the first 6 weeks, then the lower of £194.32 and 90% of average weekly earnings for up to 33 more weeks. The calculator adds the two blocks together for the number of paid weeks you enter.

Assumptions and limits
- Covers Statutory Maternity Pay only. Contractual maternity schemes often pay more, and the figures shown are before tax and National Insurance.
- Earnings below the £129 a week threshold return zero, because that pay level does not meet the statutory earnings condition.
- Eligibility also depends on continuous employment and on notifying your employer in time, which this calculator does not test. Maternity Allowance may apply instead where Statutory Maternity Pay is not available.
