How this is worked out
Volume is floor length × width × screed depth. The weight converts that volume at 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre, a typical figure for traditional sand and cement screed.
Worked example
- Floor length 4 m
- Floor width 3 m
- Screed depth 65 mm
4 × 3 × 0.065 = 0.78 m³, and 0.78 × 2.1 = 1.64 tonnes
0.78 m³, weighing about 1.64 tonnes
Assumptions and limits
- Density of 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre applies to traditional screed. Flowing anhydrite and lightweight screeds differ.
- Minimum depths depend on the screed type and whether it is bonded, unbonded or floating.
