9m³
- Approximate unit size
- 44 sq ft
- Boxes volume
- 3 m³
Estimate assuming standard boxes of about 0.1 m³ and stacking to around 2.2 m high.

How this is worked out
Each standard box is taken as 0.1 m³. Box volume plus your furniture volume gives the total, and the approximate unit size divides that by a 2.2 m stacking height and converts to square feet.
Worked example
- 30 boxes
- 6 m³ of furniture
30 × 0.1 = 3 m³, plus 6 m³
9 m³, needing about 44 sq ft
Assumptions and limits
- A standard box is about 0.1 m³, roughly 45 by 45 by 50 cm. Larger boxes need a higher volume figure.
- Assumes stacking to 2.2 m with no access aisle, so a real unit usually needs to be a size larger.
- Awkward items such as sofas, mattresses and bicycles do not stack, and rarely match their measured volume in practice.
