How this is worked out

Lawn area is length × width. Because a standard roll covers 1 m², the area plus any waste allowance rounds up to the number of rolls.

Worked example

  • Lawn 8 m × 5 m
  • No waste allowance

8 × 5 = 40 m², so 40 rolls

40 rolls

Assumptions and limits

  • Assumes rolls covering 1 m² each, which is the common size but worth confirming with the supplier.
  • Curved or irregular lawns waste turf on cuts, so a 5 per cent allowance is usual.
