Asphalt Calculator

Work out how many tonnes of asphalt you need.

Asphalt required

4.72tonnes

Volume
2 m³

Assumes a compacted density of 2.36 tonnes per cubic metre.

v1.0 · Reviewed September 2026

How this is worked out

Volume is area × laid depth, converted to tonnes at 2.36 tonnes per cubic metre for compacted asphalt.

Worked example

  • Area 40 m²
  • Laid depth 50 mm

40 × 0.05 = 2 m³, and 2 × 2.36 = 4.72

4.72 tonnes

Assumptions and limits

  • The depth is the finished compacted depth.
  • Density varies by mix, so the tonnage is an ordering guide rather than an exact weight.
