v1.0 · Reviewed September 2026

How this is worked out

Return on ad spend is revenue ÷ spend, shown as a ratio, a percentage and the revenue earned for each £1 spent.

Worked example

  • Advertising spend £1,000.00
  • Advertising revenue £4,000.00

4,000 ÷ 1,000

4:1, or £4.00 of revenue per £1 spent

Assumptions and limits

  • Uses revenue, not profit. A strong ROAS can still lose money once the cost of goods is taken off.
  • Attribution comes from whatever revenue figure you enter, so it inherits the limits of your tracking.
