Grout Calculator
Work out how much grout you need for a tiled area.
Grout required
2.4kg
- Per square metre
- 0.24 kg/m²
Assumes grout at about 1.6 kg per litre.

How this is worked out
Grout per square metre is (tile length + tile width) ÷ (tile length × tile width) × joint width × joint depth × 1.6, the last figure being the density of mixed grout in kg per litre. That rate is then multiplied by the tiled area.
Worked example
- Tiled area 10 m²
- Tile 600 × 300 mm
- Joint 3 mm wide, 10 mm deep
0.24 kg per m² × 10 m²
2.4 kg, or 0.24 kg per m²
Assumptions and limits
- Joint depth is taken as the tile thickness, so the joint is assumed filled to the full depth.
- Grout densities differ between cement based and epoxy products, and waste in the bucket and on the sponge is not included.
